I started a lengthy process the other day.  I began organizing my closet.  It went as expected: I found articles of clothing I forgot I even had-some with tags, I found some clothing that was too small, I found some I am sure I will never wear again, and lastly I found some that were donated but were not for me to begin with.  What the last three points all have in common is this: they never would have been considered or removed if I had not initiated the task.  Like my closet, I noticed some things in my life as of late that were in need of some dire and thorough consideration.
This “reorganization” process mirrors what any person seeking growth experiences.  Take for instance the clothing I forgot I had.  There are some Christians who may be aware that God loves them and wants his best for them but have forgotten the power they have by the authority in the Name of Jesus.  In my experience I forgot that there are some issues that I don’t have to deal with- all I have to do is take authority over them in Jesus’ name and move forward. Just like the clothes with the tags on them, we don’t always know what we already have.
As a freshman I came to NC Central a size 3, 115 pounds.  Ten years later I’m about four sizes larger, x lbs heavier.  I’ll be frank: there’s nothing I can do with a size 3 other than look at it and flashback.  Therefore, imagine my surprise when I noticed a size 4 skirt in my closet.  I literally laughed.  That should have been either disposed of or given away several years ago but somehow it managed to make it into my closet after moving from dorm to dorm and apartment to apartment.  Consider the parallel: there are some things in our lives that should not still be here, and I dare add “some people.”  We have outgrown some ways of doing things, we have outgrown some people but for some reason we look up and these persons and things are still in our lives.  They are not beneficial in anyway, just taking up space from some article that actually belongs there.  Depending on the context of our experiences it may or may not be fun to flashback to those people or things but there is nothing else we can do with those articles but “flashback.” Very much like clothes, some things and people are seasonal.  They are not appropriate for where we are or may be headed.  A tank top is not adequate in the winter, and a sweater is a hindrance in the summer.
Another fact about me as a NCCU freshman is this: I was a party girl.  If the club was open I was there; it didn’t matter the time, the club location, or the theme.  I take that back, the only time I did not club was on New Year’s Eve.  That was only because my religious self would not allow me to be in a club when I knew that God kept me safe for a whole year (how foolish).  So, in my closet I found a few halter tops and cat suits.  Now, how in the world they managed to make it this long is beyond me.  I’m sure that I will never, ever need them again so why was I holding on to them?  Unlike the clothes I mentioned in the previous paragraph, these clothes weren’t even good for flashing back.  They served absolutely no purpose in my closet.  They were only a reminder of who I was and will never be again.  Kind of like old CD’s, old photos, or old habits.  Case and point.
Lastly, and my personal favorite:  the clothes that I should have never taken.  The clothes were never for me.  These clothes were given to me by others who believed it was a nice gesture, or that they would look nice on me, some I honestly believe, just wanted to get the clothing out of their own closets (No pun intended).  I did not have to accept them. Even more importantly, I did not have to keep them.  This idea is probably one of the most liberating to me.  There is an old adage: “When life gives you lemons, make lemonade.”  I personally like the remix of it: “when life gives you lemons, throw them back.”   There may have been times that you have been handed situations beyond your control, situations you would not have picked for yourself, specifically things you did not deserve.  Whatever the case, you don’t have to keep those things in your closet.  Have an open conversation with God and let him have those things.  Will to forgive others and move on.
“Wherefore seeing we also are compassed about with so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which doth so easily beset us, and let us run with patience the race that is set before us,..(Hebrews 12:1)” Do not continue to hold on to things that are not for you, things that hinder your progress or growth.  Check your closet.  Assess where you are spiritually and decide what needs to be moved out, replaced, or trashed.

Most, if not all ladies want to get married someday. I for one dream of getting old with the love of my life and retire in a nice, quiet neighborhood near the sea.

The reality however, not all women will walk down the aisle or have the privilege of bearing children. Sadly we live in a fallen world. Some might wake up and find themselves in the shoes of Leah, trying so hard to please a man who is in love with another woman. Some like Anna find themselves single and devoted and serving God all the days of their lives or maybe you find yourself 16 and pregnant like Mary. Maybe you have never found validation from within, you have a deep void and thirst that you have tried quenching by hopping from relationship to relationship like the woman at the well and you are still thirsty. Just maybe you have decided marriage ruins things and you live with a boyfriend. The woman at the well did that too.

Just maybe sex is just a game you can relate to Rahab the prostitute, every man knew the way to her house even the Israelites locked outside the walls of Jericho knew how to find her. Some are like the woman with the issue of blood, a disease or physical disability has pushed you out of the courtship scene and you have no hope for marriage. Maybe like Tamar you are a victim of rape, a greedy and selfish man took your most valuable gift and your dreams and energy were shattered. Let us not forget Rebecca humble, beautiful and loved by Isaac, when it comes to dating and marriage you are blessed in every way. Good news is there is redemption and hope for everyone despite who you are in Jesus. All broken vessels can be beautiful vessels, when mended by the delicate hands of Jesus.

Our lives are different, we run different races. I don’t expect you to live the way I live but I can certainly tell you in whatever you do, in whatever season you might be may the grace and the will of God abide. May you find fulfillment and joy. All these women, their lives were different whether tragedy or happiness they were used by God for His purposes. They were part of God’s master plan to redeem the world. Whether it’s the desert or promised land praise Him, there is purpose in pain. May your pain serve Him, may your challenges minister to a sister, may your blessings empower the young and may there be joy and contentment in every heart. He is faithful. You are His heartbeat, His love is steadfast, gentle and sweet and He loves you profusely and He wants to use you, yes even you. You are a vessel of honour!

The following interview is part of Memoirs of a Virtuous Woman's Our Virtues Series, that highlights women of influence in the body of Christ. This story from Danielle Williams McCord, gives hope in
the midst of darkness. Being introduced to stripping, prostitution, and the porn industry as a teenager, her story allows you to know and remember that God Almighty is always waiting on you to turn towards him. Be encouraged by her story of incredible strength of grace and self-worth.

Briefly tell readers about yourself?

I am a ton of things. I've lived a full life before the age of 30 and I don't think God is nearly done with me yet.

As a young girl, you faced traumatizing events, one of which was molestation. There may be someone facing molestation or has in the past but is keeping silent. What would you tell them?

I would say to someone who is or has been molested to SAY SOMETHING AND TELL SOMEONE. I made the mistake of keeping it a secret out of fear and unknowingly that thing turned into a monster called anger and bitterness which fueled my fire and influenced certain behavior. So please I repeat please let it out and tell someone, anyone; and know that it was not your fault.

In your book "From Porn to the Pulpit" you also share as part of your story a time when you were beaten by your father, raped by a neighbor, and introduced to stripping. How have these moments of your life impacted other women that you have spoken to throughout the years?

My experiences have definitely influenced and impacted other women because there's something about my story that unleashes their pain that has been hidden for years. I have chosen to put my life, my flaws, my pain, and my past on the front line to help other women be free.

What was your turning point to give your life to Christ?

I didn't get saved in a church. No Pastor put oil on my forehead and laid hands on me. I got saved in a dark dirty basement. I knew my life was coming to an end, but before I could fully give up on myself and let that man kill me, I had an ounce of strength to pray. I prayed like I never prayed before and I said Lord if you get me out of this I'll change my life for you just don't let me die. God heard my prayer and I'm alive to tell the story today.

Tell us about your ministry "A New You Ministries"

A New You Ministries is based on the scripture 2 COR 5:17 which is not only my favorite scripture, but it's a testament of my story. If any man be in Christ he is a new creature, old things have passed away behold all things are made new. What better scripture to have on your heart as a constant reminder that no matter what I used to do or who I used to be. I'm a new person in Christ my old mess no longer defines me.

Many think being a Christian is full of sunshine after giving their life to Christ, allowing them to want to give up.  How have you handled trials since giving your life to Christ?

Being a Christian is not easy at all Jesus Lord have mercy! It's not easy but it's worth it. The world didn't give me anything, but shame and embarrassment, trials and tribulations. When I was in that basement I made a vow to God and I plan to live up to that for the rest of my life even when the road gets rough.

What would you tell the young women reading this that may not know her worth and searches for it in all the wrong places?

For every woman who looks for love in the wrong places will still never be fulfilled. No man can fill your void unless his name is Jesus. You don't have to compromise who you were made to be just for a man, attention, or money. You're so much more than that.

To learn more of your story, where can your book be purchased?

As part of Memoirs of a Virtuous Woman's "Our Virtues" series, that highlights influential women in the body of Christ, this interview encourages young women struggling to be bold in their faith and their self worth.

As a reporter, to interview FOX News Channel's Gretchen Carlson, is a pleasure. Not only because she's a veteran journalist that I can learn so much from, but more importantly we share the same values of faith. After learning Gretchen published her first book, "Getting Real" I knew she was the perfect fit for my mission here at Memoirs of a Virtuous Woman-To let other women know that they aren't alone in their struggles. To let them know that God's unchanging hand is never letting go and to let them know that if you stray away from the narrow path, he's always waiting to welcome you home.

I admire Gretchen for her boldness as she has that platform to do so as she mentioned during the interview, "If people happen to see me on the streets or recognize me, the number one thing people say to me is, thank you so much for talking about your faith in a public forum."

I also admire her for her strength in her past struggles. One of which as she mentioned to me was getting fired shortly after she married. She's walked the tough rope and she's encouraging others to do the same. She goes on to say one of three bible verses that she has taped to her daybook is Isaiah 41:10 which tells us, "So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God, I will strengthen you and help you. I will uphold you with my righteous hand."

May her encouragement uplift you as you  listen  to "Memoirs of a Virtuous Woman's interview with Gretchen, below. For more about Gretchen or her book "Getting Real," visit gretchencarlson.com.

Some months ago, I decided to take a stand and forcefully take hold of my heritage. Like Daniel, I
purposed in my heart to thrive no matter what situations seemed to surround me (Daniel 1:8). Feeling overwhelmed and depressed yet again, I cried out to the Lord. Then I stopped as I remembered how David encouraged himself in the Lord (1 Samuel 30:6).

I stilled my soul within me, like a child on its mother’s lap and let peace fill my heart (Psalm 131:2). I stopped struggling and relaxed in the presence of the King of kings and the Lord of lords. Now I make a conscious effort to be calm in my Spirit and continuously declare the word. I have refused to worry about what lies ahead, rather I choose to believe that no harm would come to me and that the Lord would take care of me. Standing on the word, I keep convincing myself everyday that the Lord would take it upon himself to see that I am protected on all sides and so I do not need to fret.

Are you battling with any kind of mind trouble today? Cast your cares on the Lord and remember that before you were formed in your mother’s womb, He knew you (Jeremiah 1:5). He notices everything you do and nothing about you is hidden from Him (Psalm 139:3). If He takes care of the birds of the air and the lilies of the field, won’t He take care of you, whom He made in His own image? (Matthew 6:26) You were made for His glory (Isaiah 43:7) and He will not leave you unattended (Psalm 91:11; Deuteronomy 31:6).

Be encouraged today just like David encouraged himself in the Lord and feed your mind constantly with the word, until it completely drives those depressing thoughts away. Remember, He keeps Him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on Him (Isaiah 26:3).

We live in a world where passing fantasy off as reality seems to be the normative. And why is that? I think it has just about everything to do with all of the virtual worlds that are accessible to us via the world wide web.

Since the dawn of chat rooms and social media sites like, Myspace, Facebook and Twitter, humankind has become indoctrinated with the idea that Grand Theft Auto, NBA live and such like, are real. Not to mention some hide behind their computer screens with fabricated identities, knowing fully well they could never live up to in person, the image they portray online.

Those who are honest and actually decide to step from behind the façade of the screen, end up being disappointed. Because the picture the other person painted in words and photographs through messenger, is not the same they see standing before them.

And don't even dare attempt to actually start a relationship with someone you've met online. Specifically one that's long distance. Because living in the fantasy of everything being lovely everyday becomes a daily routine. There aren't ever any REAL arguments, only those feel good emoji's being used to cover up what's really going on. People bite their tongues and stifle their opinions for the sake of maintaining the "perfect relationship" online. That is simply ridiculous, because again, if ever the time came to meet face to face, all of who you are and what you actually believe would come out!

Admittedly, I've been somewhat of a victim of this same mindset. I was in an online relationship that was the epitome of what we would call long distance. We weren't even on the same continent y'all! The beginning of things were fine, meaning our friendship. But when our feelings started to get involved, it became harder and harder to be satisfied with just chat and webcam dates. I dare say there's something completely priceless about meeting someone in the physical form. The virtual world can never offer us that. Oh they've tried to with Skype, but it's still just not enough. The temptation to participate in acts and conversations that should be saved until after marriage, is greater because you're looking for ways to feel closer to the person. It's a quest to find a pot of gold at the end of the rainbow. In other words, it won't ever happen. So then this constructing of fantasies takes over, and before you know it, your entire relationship is built on a foundation of lies.

I struggled a great deal with this during what I call my virtual affair. Mainly because, for the most part I was trying to live my life outside of the virtual world in complete honesty. My life was driven by reality and dealing head-on with what was in the front of me. So to fluctuate between that and being in a relationship with a person who preferred to sweep disagreements under the carpet, instead of communicating to discover the problem? I was soooo not okay with that! I strongly felt like it was a cop-out, and realized our so-called relationship was being used as an escape for the both of us. And that's what happens within the virtual world. It's an escape from reality. My escape within our relationship was different from his. But nonetheless, we were both running from something!

Reader what are you using to escape the realities of your current life? Is it an online affair? Is it television? Is it shopping? Eating? Or substance abuse?

Consider that seriously for a moment...

Lastly, know that if we're not willing to face the truth in our lives, truths of rebellion, not being content with our portion, or plain undisciplined, we're only fooling ourselves! When you log off of that computer, and the end credits begin to scroll, you still have to deal with the person staring back at you in the mirror! So instead of hiding behind temporal and unreliable mechanisms that are fleeting; rest in the One who's always constant and consistent.

                                                                                            Jesus.

It's a lesson I too had to learn, so you're not alone. It CAN be done!

You've heard the saying, "Nice guys finish last."

But do good girls really finish last too?

In a race with "the world" Yes, but not with Christ! Ladies isn't it time you take off your running shoes and throw in the towel in the race with the world and focus on what God has for you!

After sharing a few posts about contentment and patience via Instagram, I saw a couple of comments from other women expressing how they feel discontentment in their lives.

Whether it be at their jobs or in their personal lives, they're worried that they're getting older and they haven't accomplished or have the things they dreamed of years ago. These women look around, comparing themselves to the women that aren't living right, but seems as though they're being rewarded for sin. It allows you to think, is it worth it to live "right" or should you go back into the world with an attitude, leave celibacy alone, lie and scheme to get your way and so on and so forth.

Your answers are no! Don't you dare listen to the devil's plot to destroy what God has convicted!  I know it may be hard to see others around you being rewarded with all the materialistic things that you've prayed or praying for. But sis, they are just that-materialistic. Things you can't take from this world. Including the husband you'll marry if its the Lord's will, one day. He's only borrowing you for a moment. You belong to Christ and your hope is within him.

The thoughts you're having, I've been there. Thinking I wasn't "good" enough. How foolish of me to think so when my heavenly Father has a crown waiting on me-His Daughter, if I remain faithful to him.

True enough, if you notice the message radio and tv is giving to this generation its full of women that are flaunting their bodies to get what they want. So, with those messages you feel as though you may have to fit that standard to get noticed. Again-no! Don't buy into the hype! Don't buy into the hype of when your boyfriend says, "I have needs," in order to get sex from you. Trust me when I say he isn't the man for you if he's leading you down a path God frowns upon.

The entire point of this post points to one word.

                                                                                      PATIENCE

Yes, its hard, but its worth it. Lift your head your head up from your desk because you didn't the promotion. Don't plot an evil scheme to move up the ladder. When no one is watching you continue to do the right things! Wipe the tears from your eyes because some random guy thinks you're not good enough for him. Stop beating yourself up, over what you could've done to prevent your boyfriend from cheating. You're thinking how could the other woman be so much "better" than you. Stop wallowing in the negative and gravitate to the fact that God has greater for you ahead of the narrow path you chose to take. Below are a few scriptures on patience. I encourage you to meditate on these. Place them on sticky notes on your desk at work or on your mirror at home. Just reflect and smile on the promise God has for your life, not the world.

"Better a patient person than a warrior, one with self-control than one who takes a city."~Prov. 16:32

"Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up."~ Galatians 6:9

"Be still before the Lord and wait patiently for him; do not fret when people succeed in their ways when they carry out their wicked schemes."~Psalm 37:7

"Therefore, as God's chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience."~Col. 3:12

Be encouraged!

There was a time that I wasn't the person I am now...

There was a time when my smile masked internal tears...
...leaving room for those tears to flow on my pillow at night.

Now, I've overcome that hurt, nearly two years later after having a talk with God about guarding my heart. You're probably wondering guarding my heart against what? Well, obviously what most of you are going through at this very moment- being involved with a man that God had no intention of you being with. Someone that drags you through the mud day in and day out. Someone that takes full advantage of you. Someone that's undeserving of the husband benefits you're giving to them. Ladies I have one word for you, if you're in any of these situations.

                                                                     STOP!

Yes, I know it seems easier said than done. But trust me, it can be done and must be done! If not you're allowing yourself to be open to more wounds and a connection to ungodly soul ties that become more tangled than you can imagine. I only say this, because that girl was me. Being young and experiencing just a tad bit of freedom at 18, I fell for a guy that eventually treated me like the dirt under his shoe, after I'd been there for him through anything you could imagine. What did I end up with? Absolutely nothing! It was a lesson paid for not only with my heart but with stolen innocence, money, tears, and conviction from God, that allowed me to make up my mind that I didn't want anything to do with man not after God's own heart. I definitely had to take a step back and realize that giving my self away mentally and physically was NOT what God wanted from me. Needless to say the conviction was real and heavy on my shoulders.  After years of investing my heart into someone I thought would do the same and thinking I would mend my heart awhile later with yet another "boy" that was just another snake in the grass stringing me along, I finally said that's enough! You would think during the time I would have saw red flags in both of those situations and listened to God. But I didn't. I didn't learn my lesson, the first or second time of guarding my heart. Ladies the point of this post is, there has to be a time where you make up in your mind that you don't want to be hurt again. That you would rather save your body and heart for your future husband, not "randoms" as my favorite speaker, Heather Lindsey would say.

You're probably asking how do I overcome? How did you overcome years of hurt? Easy-Surrender everything to God. Stop running to your friends that you think have expert advice and start casting all your cares in the one that knows you best-God Almighty. Realize your worth in Christ. You're the daughter of the king. Believe it or not, I was called everything but a child of God at one point from a guy because I wouldn't do as told. Ladies you're special and random guys that aren't serious about you (but serious about ruining you) shouldn't be getting close to you. When you truly realize your worth, you'll begin to let go of some guy that wasn't worth your time. You'll know that God has something better for you.  Let me remind you God is Love and he's not a God of confusion. So the next time, you're tempted to answer calls or text messages from someone that doesn't have your best interest at heart, think about that. Trust and believe it will save you  plenty of headaches. God wants you to be at peace not lingering around in hurt. If you don't overcome, that wound will never heal leaving you scarred with bitterness, scaring off blessings. If you're someone reading this and doesn't truly realize what love is, I encourage you to read my post, "Love Is..." here. Furthermore, I pray you have the strength to move past your hurt. Brighter days are ahead for you. God already has your story written. You only need to let go...of the past.

"He said to her, "Daughter, your faith has healed you. Go in peace and be freed from your suffering."~Mark 5:34
The following is a contributed article from Kelly Detzel, reminding you patience is a virtue. Continue to wait on God's best.

Please. Another wedding invitation? Gag
me. Another Facebook status announcing her engagement? Lady, stop tooting your own horn. I mean, it isn’t that big a deal. Everyone and I mean everyone and her best friend was either married or already had an engagement ring on that pretty little finger of hers. Except me.  And I know what you’re thinking. Please girl, shut up and stop while you’re ahead. Not another single me, single you sob story. Go away. I am perfectly fine with eating my feelings and drowning in Netflix episodes. Hold on, okay? Pull up a chair and stay a while.

Anyway, it was 2012, May 5th to be exact when a message buzzed on my phone.

“I’M ENGAGED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! It read in all caps.

I knew. I knew it was coming before she even sent the text. And I won’t lie. I was still a discontented single pringle of a gal who didn’t have a clue. There she was sitting in a South Carolina restaurant with the love of her life without a care in the world. I should have been happy for her. And sure, I was happy for her. Of course I was. Happy as I text back “Congrats.” while sitting with my best friend in her living room trying to push back the tears. Happy as I scrolled through her engagement ring pics on Facebook trying to push back frustration. Happy as I tried desperately punching that green eyed monster sucker smack dab in the face. Envy-10 points, Kelly-0.

But being happy and being genuinely joyful for someone are two different things completely. Because it was her time for love. It was her time to be joined together with the one God chose for her before she was even born. Who was I to be jealous just because she got to walk down the aisle before I did?

Selfish girl bitter attitude. Single girl lonely girl. Angry girl who desperately needed a heart and soul check. The grass is always greener on the other side. Isn’t that how life just seems to go sometimes? I’d be happier, more content if I just had. . . I’d be on fire for God, believe you me if I just attained. Lord, you know this is what I need. It’s the best thing for me really. Or is it?

Clenched fist, tears in my eyes. Stones in my pocket when God longed to give me gems. My whole life ahead of me and I was stuck in a standstill. “God’s forgotten about you.” Satan whispered. “He’s withholding what you want most because He doesn’t love you.”

And at the time, I believed those lies. Swallowed them hook line and sinker Maybe I had been wrong. Perhaps I had been deceived all along. I wasn’t getting what I thought I needed when I needed it. So I selfishly blamed God for a season. It was his fault for making me wait. It was his fault I was alone. Or was it?

Twenty three and clueless. I was nowhere near even close to being ready. Cooking? Forget about it. Household skills? Don’t make me laugh. See, what we fail to remember is that God is the orchestrator of all things in His timing alone. He’s not going to just hand over what we want or think we need just because we pout and scream and cry.  If it isn’t your time to fulfill your calling, be it a nurse or teacher or doctor it’s not going to happen. Period.

Dreams put on hold for a season aren’t necessarily meant to die.I wanted to become a writer.  Man oh man did I want to write. Ladies I waited over three and a half years and God finally answered that prayer this past Friday. Three and a half years of tears and doubt and wailing and petitions out to God. See, it wasn’t that God was saying no, He was saying “My ways are not your ways; my thoughts are not your thoughts. You need to wait. You need to trust. Even if I say no.”

Do you know how long Sarah and Abraham desired and waited for a son? Can you imagine the countless tears that were shed during the wait? Twenty five years of waiting. Twenty five years of prayers and cries out to Jehovah.

But God in his perfect timing does finally answer. Genesis 21:2-3 reads “For Sarah conceived, and bare Abraham a son in his old age, at the set time of which God had spoken to him. And Abraham called the name of his son that was born unto him, whom Sarah bare to him, Isaac.”
And then God throws a curveball.

Genesis 22:2 reads: “And he said, Take now thy son, thine only son Isaac whom thou lovest, and get thee into the land of Moriah; and offer him there for a burnt offering upon of the mountains which I will tell thee of.”

It gets me every single time I read this account. How much do you love me Abraham?
Hey, how much do you love me, Kelly? How much? Are you, are we willing to give up what we treasure and or desire the most and put it on the altar as a sacrifice to God?

Genesis 22:10 reads: “And Abraham stretched forth his hand, and took the knife to slay his son.”

His precious son, his only son which he had prayed for so long. The point is he loved God more. He had faith that God would intervene right on time. He trusted and God answered.  May I encourage you tonight to follow hard after God and allow Him to become your first love? Don’t be afraid to trust God, even if He says no. Don’t be afraid to trust God even when He says yes! It’s finally time!

I don’t know about you but I love

personality tests. You know those things where you pick an option that best describes you or your feelings in particular situations and at the end of the test you get an idea of your temperament or personality? I love those things. When I first started doing them I truly was at a loss and wanted to know me. Like some online test could magically tell me about my past, present and future. Growing up seemed like a lot of work. Could I just learn, grow and be an adult without all the drama? Haha! These days I just do it for the fun of it. In those tests I would get questions like:

You have been asked to make an impromptu speech in front of many people.
Which situation best describes your reaction?

                                      A. You would beg someone else to do it for you
                                      B. You will get very nervous but do it anyway
                                      C. You would jump out of your seat eager to start talking

Now these questions were difficult for me at first because I normally would gravitate towards the reaction I would want to have, not the one I would certainly have. I wanted to be the happy-go-lucky girl who would start talking even before she jumped out of her seat. Unfortunately, I was NOT. It took me years to accept the person that looked back at me when I stared in the mirror. But I finally did. And boy was it a freeing experience.

The business of understanding and accepting our real selves is one that cannot be left to chance. You are the way you are for a reason. You have a specific purpose that can only be achieved by you, just the way you are.

Society tells us ever so subtly that certain traits of characteristics are better than others. Certain skills are more important than others. This is not a new concept. To tell you to accept who you are without societal prejudices will make me sound like a broken record. Unfortunately, even though we hear it often it is somehow a hard concept to grasp and fully adsorb. Why?

Ever wished you could trade your gift of organizing and leading for someone else’s singing talent? After all there are hardly any reality shows that celebrate the organized woman but the girl with the sultry voice? She’s a star!
Ever wish you were the girl in the office who could organize office parties with the efficiency of a drill sergeant so all the dudes could talk about what a wife material you were? But you’re stuck with your working knowledge of Excel and accounting packages as if that was enough to secure you a second look from that tall fine brother who just joined the management team.

There’s nothing wrong with wanting to be better than you are but wanting to be someone else, so you could have someone else results, life, popularity? Now that is nothing but a wild goose chase. Give it up. It’s hard? I understand.

The truth is this, even if your real self wasn’t all that and you wanted to be better in one way or another, you’re never going to get there by denying what you are. All you’ll get is that constant feeing of inadequacy, trying so hard to be better in the eyes of others so they will accept you or see you as fitting into their world. Complete waste of time!

Ok. So you’ve tried it all -A lot of advice has been given about how to get over these issues and accept yourself the way you are. I believe the main problem with people with a less than stellar self-esteem is this. They are too self-conscious. Believe me I’ve been there.

It’s not all about you. Everyone isn’t looking at you when you walk into the room. Everyone isn’t wondering why you’re not married with seven children already. And, listen to this, even if they were, it doesn’t matter! To buy the lie that you have to live according to people’s thoughts and opinions of you is to remain forever in a cage of limitation. It’s like staying home all day every day because you’re afraid of breathing contaminated air. Or deciding not to ever walk again because someone else broke their leg... well, you get the point. Yes, it is totally pointless. I think when we realize that spending every waking moment wondering and bothering is a complete waste of our precious life and time, that is when we really begin to live.

Like I said, I’ve been there. The thoughts of what people would think of me made me not do things I thought so strongly that I could do. I was always afraid of criticism and judgment. I discovered my love for writing sometime after I finished up my Bachelor’s degree in Microbiology. Funny, huh? Well not to me. I had finally found something I really loved to do. Something that made me feel like a creator. Like I could create something for other people to enjoy. Well, the ‘other people’ part came much, much later. I couldn’t bear to have anyone read what I wrote, mainly because I wondered if it was good enough. There was my wondering-bothering-self, getting the better of me. Maybe if I had a great self-esteem and I hadn’t picked up tiny little mean messages as I grew up that I wasn’t good enough and smart enough and hard-working enough, just maybe I would have been willing to push my articles and stories in people’s faces as soon as they were done. But no. I hid them, because I didn’t want any critics telling me what I already knew. I wasn’t good enough.

Somehow I found a website online that encouraged people to write, share their work and get encouragement to become better writers. I thought to myself, it’s an online thing, I can hide behind that. No one knows me anyway, so even if they say something mean, it won’t bother me. Boy was I wrong. The first writing competition I entered was a blow to the face! The judge, a lady whom I have truly forgiven, cross my heart, said something about my trying hard to string words together, but they made no sense.
Now I can’t tell you how bad a blow that was. I was ready to give up for good. It was almost like a sign; a bad omen to let me know how bad I could screw up if I kept trying to work up the nerve to call myself a writer. Those were hard days I tell you. Being young and trying to discover and validate oneself is a tough job but the gains only come to those who hang in there. Somehow that’s what I did.
I kept on trying, hard as it was. A few months later I wrote a story on that same platform that earned me the title of Featured writer of the month. Now that was a small feat in hindsight, really, but at the time I felt like I had won the Grammy for writers or something. I thought, phew! There’s something going on between me and this writing thing after all.

So I share this story because I realize that apart from the general knowledge that we are loved by God and indeed the apple of his eyes our hearts yearn for relevance and significance. We want to feel needed and useful in some way or the other, and this comes in no other way than doing something with ourselves. Something tangible that can set us apart, make us able to help and reach others. Now, while we do not look to our achievements and intellectual attributes to determine our self-esteem and value we sure should be doing something significant in this world. Give yourself the opportunity to be versatile at something. Learn, study, go back to school take a course, start a business. Cast off those limitations and do something new. You’ll be better for it.

Even the magicians of Egypt and all the wise men could not interpret the dream
for pharaoh. Only God could and  God put the treasure in Joseph to accomplish that. Nobody has the treasure God has put inside of you and can use it like you. Only you can use the treasure to change the world.

So, you don't need to compare yourself to anyone.

Seek God and let Him reveal what He has put inside of you. God has appointed just you for a particular calling. For a particular purpose. Nobody can be you , you are unique and designed specially to suit this purpose. They can go to wise men and scientist and all sorts but no one can do it like you can. But how is anyone going to know if you don’t step out?

If you say "I am shy?"  "Or I haven’t got the resources," or "I will wait till next year." You're waiting too late because, someone, somewhere is waiting to hear the words God has put in your mouth to step back from suicide.

Someone is waiting to hear your testimony to stop the abortion.
Someone is waiting to hear your song so they know all hope is not lost.
Someone is waiting to read your book so they can step out of the sick bed.

As a result of Joseph stepping out and using the treasure God has placed in him, he saved a whole nation from famine. If Joseph did not use what God had placed in him, a whole nation would have been severely devastated.

In Joseph's story its very clear that the treasure God has put in you is not just about you. Its about saving a lost nation, its about glorifying God. The treasure is not from you so give glory to who it belongs to ; GOD.

When Pharaoh asked Joseph to the interpret the dream . Joseph said "It is not in me; God will give Pharaoh an answer of peace. Joseph made it very clear that he could not interpret Pharaoh’s dream without God.

God is the one standing behind you and will direct you to release that dream, that idea, not you. So why are you afraid? Its not going to be in your own strength.

But you don't have to wait to be rich to use that treasure. Or own the biggest house. Your age , level of education, whether you have children or not, should not stop you. Just step out. Joseph was not a king before he interpreted pharaoh's dream, he was coming from prison. He was a prisoner. God will do the rest if you step out. God's treasure is not measured by your circumstance. It is measured by the ability of God. And am sure you already know nothing is impossible for God.

Even the surrounding nations came to Egypt for food. The treasure God put inside Joseph was to deliver not just people from Egypt from famine, but even outside of Egypt. The treasure God has put inside you may be singing, writing, speaking, directing, drawing, sowing, designing ,dreaming, interpreting dreams, prophesying. Even if the list here does not link to you God still has something very specific for you.

Your treasure will take you to places you haven't seen. You treasure will be a blessing to you and others. You may not see how now. But Joseph didn’t see how either. He just stepped out. Joseph's dream came to pass as a result of  using the treasure placed in Him. He became head over pharaoh’s house and all the people were ruled according to His word. He became wealthy and successful.

The treasure God has put inside you will lead you to your purpose. May God give us the strength to step out and accomplish His purpose for our lives.

Ephesians 4:18

They are darkened in their
understanding, alienated from the life of God because of the ignorance that is in them, due to their hardness of heart.

Christian atheism: One who believes in God but lives as if God does not EXIST!

If you have watched the movie God is Not Dead then this girl on the left here is a great example of how a Christian Atheist acts. She claims to be a Christian but was so self-centered that she cared more about her future than her boyfriend wanting to defend his faith.

Be reminded that unequally yoked relationships are not healthy, Its important to be careful not to choose someone who claims to know God but lives in disobedience, no fear of God, constant sin, and only has room for two in a relationship.

God should not be a third wheel.

HE IS ALWAYS FIRST

You'll never have a healthy relationship without Jesus at the Center! If Jesus is barely mentioned, never really involved  in your issues, problems, situations, if he isn't prayed to and given a word of thanks at the beginning of dinner dates or before bed time as  (married) couples, then your relationship is headed down the wrong direction.

It should never be this way-claiming to know God but waking up daily forgetting He's the reason. Going to church to hear about him and his expectations but never really aware of his presence being there.

God wants to be a part of every relationship, in every aspect.  Many of
our past relationships were about each other, our selfish needs and desires. But praise God that This Love is Selfless! Daily, we speak on where to go next with our faith and what does God expect of us now in the present. We read God's Word continually because we feel empty when only guided by our own opinions and thoughts, we cant function as an individual or a couple if the Holy Spirit isn't leading us.

We are NOTHING if our FAITH isn't put into action, and our deeds aren't done in SPIRIT & in TRUTH!

The only explanation I've concluded
about women who give their bodies to undeserving men time after time, is a lack in knowing the value of their virtue. In my opinion it is that, and the possible neglect of being properly admonished as a child.

It's human nature to waste things we have no appreciation of. Hence the reason why we teach our children from toddlers responsibility. Pick up after yourself. Don't destroy your property or somebody else's. Say please and thank you. But what about the area of self respect? Do we stress to our little girls and boys the importance of their purity? Do we emphasize its importance and rehearse often to them why? Do they understand why they shouldn't waste water, more than they understand why they shouldn't waste themselves?

I know for me growing up in my household, the extent of a chastity conversation was, "Don't do it because YOU WILL get pregnant, and I'm not taking care of no mo' babies!" This was well understood. However, there was no value placed anywhere before, after or in between those warnings. Only the consequences. I think it should also be stated here that our parents and guardians did the best they could for us. A lot, if not all of what was taught to my generation, was passed down from the previous ones before. However, we were robbed of some vital jewels and pearls of wisdom. I think this had everything to do with the fact that certain conversations were off limits!

In certain cultures, sex is not discussed in detail. It is simply skimmed over and abbreviated. It's usually attached to threats of pregnancy, disease and homelessness. Ok well that takes care of the fear part, but what about the beauty of waiting? It has also been proven that it takes more than the fear of God to lead someone in the right direction. It takes love. Teach me to love myself and I will do whatever you ask of me. Why? Because now I trust you. You have my best interest at heart, and I can believe in whatever you tell me.

One definition of virtue is--- the good result that comes from something. Are we teaching our children the good results that comes from staying pure and chaste in their body, soul and mind? Or are we calling down fire and brimstone from heaven, hoping this will keep them away from normal human curiosity? If we as adults, Christian or not, know the consequences of not waiting to partake in sexual activity before marriage, we should work hard to rescue our kids from those same consequences. But not through the doom and gloom of fear. But by emphasizing the worth of a chaste woman and man. Yeah so what, nobody did it for us, we had to fend for ourselves! But if you could go back wouldn't you have wanted someone who cared enough to say something? I know I would've. I wish I'd had the perfect balance of admonition and why I should wait. Unfortunately like so many, I didn't get that until many mistakes later. But thanks be to God, the cycle can stop with me! If one day I'm blessed to become a mother, my children WILL get, "the talk", and they will know and understand early on, the value of them holding onto their purity.

This is all to say, don't be so quick to judge them who waste their virtue. It's obvious they weren't taught its value and therefore they're wasting themselves without any care of  the consequences. There's many deficiencies there, but with the help of Jesus it can be cured if desired. Teach them the value of self. Start with self-worth and end by telling them God has a purpose for their bodies that's greater than sex.

For the most part I've always the girl that dressed in a classy way. Short skirts and
low tops were never my thing. Especially low tops. Seeing any part of my chest exposed, entailed me putting that shirt or dress by on the store's rack.

But unfortunately everyone's not like me. There are some girls that aren't insecure about exposing their bodies. Instead they expose their bodies because they're insecure or want attention from men or females that they're jealous of or simply don't like. Whatever the case may be, that's not of God.

Women with that mindset are being led by the flesh, not the spirit.

Dressing modestly is something some women really don't understand. Some don't understand that its causing men Christian and men of "the world" to stumble into lust. They don't understand it shows a lack of self-respect for themselves. They don't understand low self-esteem is exposed. They don't understand they're insecurities are revealed one by one accounting for the layers of clothes missing.

1 Timothy 2:9-10 tells us, "I also want women to dress modestly, with decency and propriety, not with braided hair or gold or pearls or expensive clothes, but with good deeds, appropriate for women who profess to worship God."

I absolutely love this scripture but it also tells us that expensive materialistic things shouldn't matter to us. So, ladies stop trying to break the bank to impress people that you want to make like you or give you some sort of recognition. Stop spending on things you can't afford to look like everyone else. Be a trendsetter not a follower.

As far as dressing modestly is concerned if you're having a hard time, I would first suggest going through your closet and getting rid of clothing that you know isn't spirit led. Also, know what types of clothes work for your body. No, we don't want clothes hanging off of you but you also don't want clothes that are too small, hugging your body.

Again. think classy.

If you're on a budget, make your first shop thrift stores and go from their.

Remember modesty doesn't come at a price but dressing immodestly does and that price is degrading comments and pure disrespect from others.

The following guest post has been contributed to "Memoirs of a Virtuous Woman" by an anonymous writer that hopes you're encouraged by her words of incredible strength from a painful past. She reminds you that God is always waiting on you to find your way back to the cross, no matter how far lost you have walked away from the narrow path. He's waiting. He's listening. He's watching. And his unchanging hand will always welcome you back.

Hey ladies! First, I would like to thank God for allowing me out of my past and giving me the opportunity to minister and speak life into you! I'm here to tell you; no matter the circumstance, you are not your past, there is always a Road to Redemption. By His stripes we are all healed and He died for our transgressions. We have been reassured that our past is forgotten and our iniquities forgiven. Trust me, the news gets better! Not only will He forget your past; He will set it up in a way that others will not remember. Once you have repented and began your Road to Redemption, he will recreate you, make you anew, give you a new life. Isaiah 43:25 reminds us two truths:

1.) He will blot out or erase our sins.

2.) He will no longer remember them.

It is stated, "I, even I, am he who blots out your transgressions, for my own sake, and remembers your sins no more. " I'm here to tell you the life God has destined for you can not and will not be held back because of your past. Although you may get discouraged and life may get you down, there is power in the name of Jesus and there is strength in His word. I want you to know, NO MATTER what you have done, you can go to Him in prayer.

Which leads you to my story...

I grew up in the church and very connected to God. When I was sixteen I lost my virginity and most of my self esteem and self respect went with it. As time progressed my 'body count' had risen to about four in a matter of months; in the teens over two years; and now close to twenty. Beginning my freshman year of college I wanted to reinvent myself from the promiscuous spirit that I had developed. Little did I know, habit was oh so hard to break. I made myself feel better though by making sure that I only slept with a man if I were in a relationship with him ... well, that's after I had slept with two guys who were in relationships themselves. I remember I would 'talk' to a guy for a week then think it's ok to be with him. All because I felt like I was not being 'as promiscuous'.

Soon enough, I had fallen into a party lifestyle and I had been placed on academic probation. I was really living 'the life': you know, sex, drugs, and alcohol. I would still go to church every now and then; you know, to keep the lines of communication open; between me and God, so he didn't forget about me. Soon enough I had met my match. He was charming, sweet, hard working, a praying man!

But he didn't mind me smoking, drinking, partying, or our premarital sex. I trusted him, and fell for him. I fell pretty hard! FLAT ON MY FACE that is!

I had trusted him so much that we had stopped using condoms and never thought to use protection during oral sex. From that relationship, I contracted Chlamydia, Herpes, HPV, a broken spirit, a broken heart, a spirit of depression, a spirit of suicide, and a heart not willing to open up.

One night, I had taken sleeping pills, liquid sleeping medicine, about two or three shots of vodka, and slipped in the tub. I was ready for whatever would happen. It didn't work and over the course of about a month of battling to stay with him, praying to get through it, and about two more suicide attempts, I won. So, I began to heal, or so I thought. I went out with my girls and found me a man ... to sleep with

Why did I think the same way I got in this mess was the same way I'd get out?

Anyway, me and my girls went back to his place with him and his boys. They brought us alcohol and weed. We smoked and drank and was all feeling good! Me and the guy went into the back room and started to ... well, you know. Certainly I felt instant conviction. I told him to stop and he wouldn't. I was crying and asking him over and over to stop. I convinced myself that if I hadn't been drinking and out looking for trouble that would've never happened. Yes, that may be true, however, he also should have stopped. Since that night I have forgiven him. Simply because holding onto hurt much more than letting go.

One night after I thought I had healed (without the REAL help of God by the way), I found myself broken, yet again. Lonely. Scared. I wanted to smoke, I needed to get high. I didn't have any weed and couldn't find any on campus to buy. At that point, as I lay in my bed, I looked over and saw my Bible. I picked it up and started reading. It was then I realized when I had nothing I still had God. It was also then I realized I should never allow myself to be in a place where I say well, if I have nothing else, God I have you.

Since then, I have grown in ministry and I am definitely still growing in His name. You see sister, He will deliver you from your darkest places, because you have a calling on your life and you must fulfill your calling.

Romans 8:28-31 says, "And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose. For those God foreknew he also predestined to be conformed to the image of his Son, that he might be the firstborn among many brothers and sisters. And those he predestined, he also called; those he called, he also justified; those he justified, he also glorified. What, then, shall we say in response to these things? If God is for us, who can be against us?"

My sister! How glorious is it that we are reassured that our destiny is set in stone, that no one can erase our name and replace it with their own, my sister! How marvelous is this word that it comforts us at our darkest hours? He never said the weapons wouldn't form, He only said he wouldn't let them prosper my sister. My journey has not been perfect; however, my purpose is! I am blessed to go through what I have gone through. I'm stronger, more resilient, more loving, understanding, and kind. It's brought me back to My Father!

I am here to let you know today that it's going to be all right. Your breakthrough is coming, you have to hold on and wait until the morning to see it. You must understand your destiny is greater than your downfall! Speak life over yourself, cry it out in the shower, STAY in your word, have faith, and be be encouraged.

~Anonymously, GRlorious Redemption

From time to time, you may
read me referencing to my late father and that's because, even though my time with him was limited, I learned important things that every little girl should learn from her father.

Another memory of him, is in 6th grade as he drove me to school, we saw a girl a little older than me all alone on a bench to herself with her head down reading. The other crowds of kids were far from her. To some it may seem like she didn't have any friends but to others like my father, it may have meant sometimes its good to stay to yourself instead of being surrounded by a big circle of friends whom may mean you harm. I remember him saying, "See, ain't nothing wrong with being by yourself sometimes. Its good to be different. Its good to be set apart."

Those words bring me to this post. Being set apart. But are you missing out if you do? Are you missing out on the latest gossip or drama? Are you missing out on weekend plans in clubs or bars? I will confidently answer questions with absolutely not.

If you're a young lady in Christ reading this, I want you to know there is nothing wrong with being different. Being different to some may mean you're weird. But remember your worth in Christ. Remember you're striving for a crown of life and that crown is far more precious than anything on this earth. Yes, anything! Careers, relationships, friendships, material possessions. Remember this world will pass away. These things are only temporary. Earthly titles and achievements don't matter. There won't be a celebration in heaven for those, but instead a meeting around the throne to meet the King. Also, if you're a young lady that's not in the body of Christ I encourage you to seek others walking the narrow path. Be encouraged that being a Christian doesn't mean you're missing out.  Be encouraged that our souls are not a game and be reminded of where your soul may be if Christ returns and you're in the middle of sin.

Ladies I encourage you to be an example to other young women. You may be the only bible someone reads which may have a great impact on their lives. You have the ability to lead another young woman to Christ by your words and actions. So be content in your decisions to be set apart and about your heavenly father's business on a Friday or Saturday night versus being in someone's club, asking for that next drink or feigning for that next ounce of drugs. Romans 12:2 reminds us not to be conformed to this world. Its simply not worth it. Its not worth the pain or tears the world offers and its certainly not worth eternal separation from our Lord and Savior.

What was once a fairy tale can end in destruction if you're not careful and can happen to
anyone...

October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month and statistics tell us 1 in 4 women will experience domestic violence in her lifetime and every year more than 3 million children are witnesses of domestic violence in their homes. As I write this and as you read this, a woman is scrambling across a floor hanging on to her life. I realize domestic abuse, not only happens to women but men also. Needless to say, its a horrible experience for anyone. Also as I write this I'm reminded of my second book, a novel which is surrounded by domestic abuse.

So what exactly is abuse? Many of us are aware of the signs of physical abuse but what are the signs of emotional abuse?

The National Domestic Violence tells us the following:

-Telling you that you can never do anything right
-Showing jealousy of your friends and time spent away
-Keeping you or discouraging you from seeing friends or family members
-Embarrassing or shaming you with put-downs
-Taking your money
-Looking at you or acting in ways that scare you
-Controlling who you see, where you go, or what you do
-Preventing you from making your own decisions
-Forcing you to do things that you don't want to

These signs usually turn physical in what was a fairy tale relationship to begin with. They're also rarely reported because of embarrassment of because you don't want your friends or family in control of the relationship.

If you're a friend of someone experiencing domestic abuse what should you do?

My best advice is to allow your friend to know they're worth in the eyes of the Lord. Explain to them their self-worth is extremely important its time its resurfaced. Its not easy for someone experience abuse to just leave so don't ridicule your friend more. Their partner has done enough of that. Encourage them through scripture and be the friend they've always known you to be. If you belittle them, they'll never return for your comfort and their situation remains the same or gets worse. Remember, they came to you for a reason, because they need healing and want a way out. You're a push. A glimmer of hope that everything will be ok.

If you're someone experiencing domestic violence right now, I encourage you to seek a path to safety. You're encouraged to anonymously call the National Domestic Violence Hotline at 1-800-799-SAFE (7233). Also, visit their site for further information at www.thehotline.org.

"He said to her, "Daughter, your faith has healed you. Go in peace and be freed from your suffering."~Mark 5:34
