Path to Healing from Childhood Wounds

April is National Childhood Abuse Prevention Month and its alarming to know that every year there are 3 million reports of child abuse in the United States. These reports are part of physical, sexual, and emotional abuse. They also reflect physical and emotional neglect...

...and some of you may be dealing with closing the wounds of child abuse from your past. Thankfully, God placed me in a home with parents that loved me unconditionally and would never abuse me. However, there are many that weren't that fortunate, now the abuse that they've gone through whether silently or spoken of affects their lives significantly. Childhood abuse could affect your relationship with your spouse or your own children if not healed. As a result there could be bitterness and lack of trust towards others.

Maybe you're a young lady reading this that has suffered child abuse and now the way of life for you is promiscuity, latching onto a man for security, or maybe you're insecure of yourself, so dressing in a manner that gives you attention takes away from your pain. Whatever the case may be, Christ doesn't want you to live in that manner. Instead he wants you to be healed and live in his glory not in the past.

He wants you to pray. Pray about your past. Cry out to him. I can assure you he's listening to every word and sees every tear. He knows you were a vulnerable child that suffered, now he wants you to be made a whole as an adult.

"This is my comfort and consolation in my affliction: that your word has revived me and given me life."~Psalm 119:50

Surround yourself with those that support and want to see you stronger. Seek out others from your church that you can share your story with. Not only those in the church with you but also your pastor. Sunday's isn't the only time you should see your sisters in Christ. We should be in support of each other 7 days a week.

Remind yourself that your abuse is NOT your identity. You are a daughter of the King. Not abuse. He created you to live with a purpose not wither from abuse. Remember he comforts us through our troubles.

"The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit."~Psalm 34:18

One thing that I love doing, which helps through any trial in life is journaling. Write down your thoughts, reflections, and future expectations of yourself as you're on the path to becoming whole again. Air out those feelings on paper while talking to God.

...and lastly if you're someone reading this and know of a child being abused at this very moment. Seek help for that child. DON'T keep it a secret. It doesn't matter who's doing the abusing (relative or friend) stop protecting that person and do as Christ would like for you do and help an innocent child.
