Overcoming Depression

Some months ago, I decided to take a stand and forcefully take hold of my heritage. Like Daniel, I
purposed in my heart to thrive no matter what situations seemed to surround me (Daniel 1:8). Feeling overwhelmed and depressed yet again, I cried out to the Lord. Then I stopped as I remembered how David encouraged himself in the Lord (1 Samuel 30:6).

I stilled my soul within me, like a child on its mother’s lap and let peace fill my heart (Psalm 131:2). I stopped struggling and relaxed in the presence of the King of kings and the Lord of lords. Now I make a conscious effort to be calm in my Spirit and continuously declare the word. I have refused to worry about what lies ahead, rather I choose to believe that no harm would come to me and that the Lord would take care of me. Standing on the word, I keep convincing myself everyday that the Lord would take it upon himself to see that I am protected on all sides and so I do not need to fret.

Are you battling with any kind of mind trouble today? Cast your cares on the Lord and remember that before you were formed in your mother’s womb, He knew you (Jeremiah 1:5). He notices everything you do and nothing about you is hidden from Him (Psalm 139:3). If He takes care of the birds of the air and the lilies of the field, won’t He take care of you, whom He made in His own image? (Matthew 6:26) You were made for His glory (Isaiah 43:7) and He will not leave you unattended (Psalm 91:11; Deuteronomy 31:6).

Be encouraged today just like David encouraged himself in the Lord and feed your mind constantly with the word, until it completely drives those depressing thoughts away. Remember, He keeps Him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on Him (Isaiah 26:3).
