Killing the Curse of Procrastination

Believe it or not, I was the biggest procrastinator in high school and college. Big projects were hovered over at the last minute. 10-15 page papers were literally started on the night before and finished an hour before class. I'm not sure if it was the "rush" that made me supposedly think better or the fact that I felt that I had writing completely under control since it was a big part of who I am and apart of the field I aspired to be in. Whatever the case, it was completely wrong and I advise no one to do the same. I know many of you have done or are that doing that exact same thing right now and my advice again.

    Not recommended.

Needless to say, I became wiser shortly before graduating college as I prepared to look for jobs. During that time, preparations for big opportunities were taken care of well in advance. Outside of my education, I always found my drive of creativity to be the total opposite. For example, when self-publishing my first book-there was more time devoted, creating lessons for creative writing classes for kids-more time devoted, and encouraging others with "Memoirs of a Virtuous Woman" - more time devoted. Simply saying, if something is truly important to you, you make the effort to make it happen.

Now there are some of you reading that have all of these great ideas but you're not putting them to use, because of fear or maybe you're devoting your time of productivity to mindless behavior. If you're reading this as a born-again Christian you know God has not given us a spirit of fear.

"Fear of man will prove to be a snare, but whoever trusts in the Lord is kept safe."~Proverbs 29:25

You’re scared you may fall flat on your face, so you keep your gifts that God has given you a secret.  He’s not pleased sister.

Then there may be someone that have the curse of laziness. Yes, laziness is a curse and our society its becoming so easy for you to fall into a slump. Instead of tackling what matters, you’re scrolling through social media browsing the latest trends or arguments by your “friends.” When in reality you should be focusing on what matters, not mindless things of the world for hours at a time. Proverbs 13:4 tells us, "Lazy people want much but get little, while the diligent are prospering."

Who are you? Are the percentage working towards diligence or are you settling for the pit of laziness?

Or maybe you’re not lazy, you’re the total opposite and strive for perfection. Let me stop you right there. No one is perfect but our Father in heaven.  Work and let God do the rest. Striving for perfection in areas of my work is something I’ve had to deal with. I’m my biggest critic, which is a curse. Remember, "If you wait for perfect conditions, you'll never get anything done!"~Ecclesiates 11:4

Whether work related or simply devoting time to everyday living, first of which is spending time with God, if you’re procrastinating, feeling discouraged about what to do peel your way out, I encourage you to go to God in prayer. Ask him what is you need to do. Ask him what matters. Ask for wisdom when you find yourself confused about what to tackle first.  Remember when asking be ready to receive his answers.

"Wisdom is the principal thing; therefore get wisdom: and with all thy getting get understanding."~Proverbs 4:7

Be encouraged and as always share with your friends, not only in the body of Christ but others. Its our job to minister to those around us. Love and blessings, ~Danielle
